Renewal of ISEGA Certification for ACOMA Products
Saying that ACOMA aims at quality products and services is an understatement compared to the company’s commitment to safety and sustainability. We firmly believe that in today’s market, it’s essential to stand out by always seeking the highest results, broadening our perspective and going beyond the mere functional excellence of a product. Examples of this philosophy include our environmental policy and the renewal of the ISEGA certification, which ACOMA obtained in January.
What does ISEGA certification mean?
When referring to ISEGA certified products, it relates to compliance with the requirements of the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, a German institute aiming to ensure safety and quality for consumers. Compliance with these requirements can apply to different types of products, but all related to contact with food. Possible risks to people are established, and depending on the results, the product’s quality is defined. Like other environmental labels or certifications, the goal of ISEGA certification is also to communicate and inform consumers.
Who issues the certification
The reference standards, as mentioned, are those defined by the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (hereafter BFR), which sets a model throughout Europe. Very strict requirements and checks have been identified, specifically to guide the market and ensure maximum safety.
The BFR was established in 2002 to assess risks associated with products and is a German entity with international recognition. The outcome of the research and risk analysis is translated into so-called “recommendations,” i.e., reference standards that manufacturers can adhere to, although they do not have the force of law or mandatory regulation, at least outside Germany. Currently, the only entity authorized to issue certifications is the German laboratory ISEGA.
Why ACOMA chooses to certify the conformity of its products
Although the BFR’s recommendations are not mandatory, certifying a product’s conformity to them is equally not obligatory. ACOMA has chosen to renew the ISEGA certification because it sees it as a strategic choice, but most importantly, a guarantee for the consumer. We place great importance on sustainability and attention to people, so it is crucial for us to engage with high standards and verify the results achieved. We are dealing with particularly sensitive issues, such as food contamination or compromising people’s safety, with health consequences. Therefore, our company sees certification as an element of assurance and also an important means of communication to the consumer. To obtain it, it is necessary to pass migration tests for materials intended to come into contact with food (checking if substances can transfer to food) and chemical analyses of the materials.
